Consultation Fees:
Initial Comprehensive Consultation (60 minutes): $125.00
Follow-up Consultation 30-minutes: $50.00
Payment is due at the time of service. We do not bill your insurance for lactation consultations unless paired with your initial 2-day visit or a weight check. Lactation consultations paired with a physician visit are 30 minutes. Failure to arrive on time will result in a reduced visit with the lactation consultant.
Please be advised, if you need to cancel or reschedule your scheduled appointment, we ask that you provide us with a 24-hour notice or you will be subject to a $50.00 late cancellation fee.
Prepare for your private consultation:
Feed your baby (but not too much!):
In order to work together through a full feeding, your baby should come ready to eat. It can be a bit of a “Goldilocks” situation. You do not want your baby to be too hungry because a stressed out baby who has been crying might not have the energy or the patience to feed well but a baby who is too full will not be interested in feeding during the consult. To achieve the “just right” situation you should offer your baby a substantial feeding for at least an hour and a half to two hours before our consultation.
Feed yourself:
Make sure you eat a good meal before your meeting with the lactation consultant. This will help you feel your best and allow you to retain more information.
Bring Back-up:
It is often helpful to have a support person present so you can learn together. This person can help you remember information discussed during the appointment.
Bring Any Breastfeeding Accessories:
Your breasts and the baby are the only essentials but if you are using any breastfeeding tools: a special pillow, nipple shield, etc. bring those along as well. We have additional supplies in our office if needed.

Lactation Testimonials:
I met with Maureen a few days after being discharged from the hospital with my first born. Maureen was supportive, encouraging, and nonjudgmental. She answered all of my questions and encouraged me to reach out to her if I had any questions after our appointment. I very highly recommend her!

Very reassuring and helpful!

Maureen is very helpful, open to all questions and knowledgeable. During my first session with her and in the support group, Maureen helped address my concerns without hesitation and her tips worked great!

Maureen was an incredible support during my first few weeks with a baby. For numerous reasons, breastfeeding never ended up being possible for me, but while we were trying hard to make it work, Maureen was my main source of knowledge and support. I think it would have been a lot more emotionally devastating to stop trying to breastfeed if Maureen hadn’t been there every step of the way telling me I was doing everything I could for my child and that was enough. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Maureen is AMAZING! I was able to get an appointment relatively quickly with her when my newborn was falling asleep in the middle of feedings. She spent upwards of an hour with me and shared many tactics and tips on how to get him to finish feedings. The newborn support group was awesome, as I liked having a standing date on my calendar to get dressed and leave my house.

Maureen is nothing short of amazing. She’s had a significant impact on helping me feel more comfortable as a new mother – from helping me to tackle and feel more confident breastfeeding, building a sense of community with the feeding support group, and also just being available (and highly responsive). I have a deep appreciation for all that she’s done and continues to do – especially for new moms like myself. Thank you, Maureen!!!

Maureen is so much more than an LC. “Other duties as assigned” are definitely part of her job – counselor, therapist, and overall baby guru just to name a few. She is so personable and friendly, but super knowledgeable as an RN and IBCLC, so she really can answer any of your questions (and she does!). The support group was really beneficial and a great way to connect with other moms. Maureen is amazing, and I was so grateful to have this service right at the pediatrician!

Maureen is so knowledgeable, kind and helpful. She’s been consistently great at responding to my inquiries in a timely and thorough fashion. She’s just wonderful!

Maureen is amazing! If it wasn’t for her I would have stopped breast feeding both of my children much earlier than I wanted to. She cares so much about her patients and babies! The best resource for new mommies! She is fantastic!

Maureen was so helpful during my first few weeks as a new mom, even as I needed to supplement with formula. She always checked in on me to see how I was doing.

Maureen is such an amazing resource at Potomac Pediatrics! Not only is she such a sweet person, but she is encouraging and extremely knowledgeable. Breastfeeding is exhausting & definitely a challenge, but Maureen is there to talk out any concerns you may have in person or over the phone. Thanks to Maureen’s guidance, I have 2 months of my 6-month (minimum) goal under my belt.

I loved attending the group with my infant. The small size coupled with Maureen’s experience made for a really supportive environment and useful session. I came away with advice related to my specific situation and knew that if I continued to have trouble, I could come back in two weeks to check in again. This is a special and really excellent group.

As a new mom I looked forward to getting together twice a month with these moms, get feedback and advice from Maureen, and just have some extra support in those first few months! I got lucky that the issues I had with breastfeeding were minor compared to some of the other moms, but it was so helpful to sit and listen to all different kinds of things that were happening to be able to troubleshoot in between the sessions with Maureen.

Maureen has been so helpful through the whole breastfeeding journey. Even now, that I’m back at work, I know I can always shoot her an email with my questions or concerns and she’s so responsive and helpful!
